Stockholm darkwave duo Hatif have recorded a cover of Editors’ “Papillon,” set for release on June 26, 2026 via Town And Towers Records. The track reworks the 2009 Editors single rather than reproducing it, and a visualizer is already online ahead of the release date.
The duo rebuild the song’s structure. It opens as a slow piece with exposed vocals and synth pads, shifts onto a heavy bassline, drops to a piano break, then brings in the full beat on the second chorus. The duo describez the approach as taking a track “that has been played to death,” pulling it apart and putting it “back together.”
Hatif’s ‘Papillon’ and the Town And Towers release
Hatif release “Papillon” through Town And Towers Records, the Nordic label that handles their catalogue. The cover follows the band’s 2025 album “Small States”, also issued through Town And Towers. “Papillon” was first released by the English band Editors in 2009 as the lead single from their album “In This Light and on This Evening.”
About Hatif
Hatif is an electronic duo formed in Stockholm in 2020 by Markus Majdalani and Johan Eckerström. The project works in a dark, bass-driven electronic style that draws on 1980s new wave, early-1990s synth, and contemporary electronic production. The duo released their “debut single on ScentAir Records” in 2021, then moved into a longer run of singles, including “Heredity” in 2023 and “Broken Bucket” and “Take the Bait” in 2024 and 2025. Sweden’s Agent Side Grinder “remixed their track ‘Pool'” in 2022. Hatif’s music is released under license to Town And Towers Records, the Scandinavian label that issued their album “Small States” on May 23, 2025. The “Papillon” cover is the duo’s first release since that album.
