Soft Science release single ‘Spinning’ and announce new album ‘Sand’
Sacramento dream-pop band Soft Science release the single “Spinning”, the first track from their fifth album “Sand”, out 4 September 2026.

Soft Science, the dream-pop band from Sacramento, California, have released the single “Spinning”, the first track from their fifth album “Sand”, set for release on 4 September 2026 through Shelflife Records in North America and Spinout Nuggets in the UK, on CD and vinyl. “Spinning” is out now on digital platforms.
“Spinning” pairs driving guitars and a looping bass hook with Katie Haley’s vocal. “Sand” runs ten tracks, recorded at Shattered Records and The Pool House with engineering by Jack O’Donnell, mixing by Kev Bolus at OneEleven and mastering by Antony Ryan at Red Red Paw; Soft Science produced the album themselves.
Singer Katie Haley called it “one of my favorite songs on “Sand”“ and added: “it’s the kind of song that is catchy and you can’t help moving to it, but it also has a lot of tension, which fits so well with the lyrics.”
A video for “Spinning”, directed by Matthew Maxwell, is online:
About Soft Science
Soft Science is a dream-pop and shoegaze band formed in 2009 in Sacramento, California, by Katie Haley and brothers Ross and Matt Levine, now a six-piece with Becky Cale (bass), Tony Cale (drums) and Hans Munz (electronics). The band self-released “Highs and Lows” (2011), “Detour” (2013) and “Maps” (2018) on its own Test Pattern Records, then issued its fourth album “Lines” in 2023, its first worldwide release through Shelflife Records and Spinout Nuggets; Side-Line covered that record’s lead single “Kerosene”. “Sand”, due 4 September 2026, is the band’s fifth album, led by “Spinning”.
