Austrian futurepop project mind.in.a.box has announced its ninth studio album, “Retaliation”, due September 18, 2026. The album runs 13 tracks and 71 minutes. No lead single or video has been released from Retaliation yet.

mind.in.a.box’s cyberpunk story continues on ‘Retaliation’
The project is the sound, vocal and production work of Austrian musician Stefan Poiss, built around a continuing cyberpunk-themed story delivered through vocoder-processed vocals over futurepop and progressive trance production. Because 2010’s “R.E.T.R.O.” stands apart from that storyline, Retaliation is also the eighth chapter in the narrative that began with “Lost Alone,” following 2023’s “Black and White.”
About mind.in.a.box
Stefan Poiss and Markus Hadwiger, childhood friends from Austria, founded the band in Vienna in 2002. Poiss composes the music, sings and produces the records, while Hadwiger contributed to the project’s lyrics and story before becoming inactive; Poiss is now mind.in.a.box’s sole creative force. The debut album, “Lost Alone,” arrived in 2004 on Dependent Records (also released via Metropolis Records) and reached number one on the Deutsche Alternative Charts for five consecutive weeks. “Dreamweb” followed in 2005, peaking at number two on the same chart, and “Crossroads” arrived in September 2007, completing the project’s opening trilogy, later reissued together as the Dreamweb Trilogy 6LP box in 2020.
In 2010, mind.in.a.box released “R.E.T.R.O.,” a release separate from its ongoing storyline that pays tribute to 8-bit computing and the Commodore 64. The project first performed live in 2009 at Sweden’s Arvika Festivalen, documented on the live album “Arvika Live” (2010). mind.in.a.box launched its own label, Dreamweb Music, for “Revelations,” released January 20, 2012, followed by “Memories” on March 20, 2015. “Broken Legacies,” released in 2017, was mind.in.a.box’s first album on THYX Records, Poiss’s own label, and its most recent album, “Black and White,” arrived August 30, 2023, also via THYX Records. “Retaliation” is set for September 18, 2026.
