Genre/Influences: Experimental, electro-ambient, cinematographic.

Background/Info: French artist Jérôme Chassagnard already released four albums on Hymen Records and started last year with an EP-series inspired by elements of nature. After “Sea” it’s time to explore the “Wind” resulting in four tracks.

Content: The theme of the record inspired the artist to work with like  wind instruments like the flute, wind chimes and voices. Entering the sound universe of this artist and “Wind” feels like moving throughout an imaginary tunnel vision where electronic sounds, field recordings and the sound of authentic instruments are leading the listener into an abstract universe. The addition of shimmering female vocals at “Carried” creates a strong cinematic sensation reminding me to the mysterious world of “Twin Peaks”.

+ + + : This record has something pretty intimate and feels relaxing. It’s melting influences together and especially the cinematographic and abstract sensation are emerging at the surface. I like the delicacy of the treatments and “Carried” featuring these female vocals is a real master cut.

– – – : I got the impression there’s even more in this record than what came out.

Conclusion: “Wind” is a delicious electro-experimental caress.

Best songs: “Carried”, “Gone With The Wind”.

Rate: (7½).

Inferno Sound Diaries
I have been working for over 30 years with Side-line as the main reviewer. My taste is eclectic, uncoventional and I prefer to look for the pearls, even if the bands are completely unknown, thus staying loyal to the Side-Line philosophy of nurturing new talents.

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
