Black Lung, the electronic project of Australian musician David Thrussell, released “Babel (Remixed by Xavier Morel)” on the Australian techno label Psy-Harmonics. Black Lung’s “Babel” collects four Xavier Morel reworks of recent Black Lung tracks, turning them toward the clean, hypnotic techno the DJ is known for.

Inside Black Lung’s ‘Babel’ remixes

The set runs four tracks: “The Arcana Of Command (Xavier Morel RMX)”, “Armageddon (Xavier Morel – Progressif RMX)”, “The Sleep Of Reason (Xavier Morel RMX)” and a second reading of “Armageddon (Xavier Morel RMX)”. All four rework original material from the Black Lung LP “The Brutal Gardener”, the album that produced the earlier “Armageddon” video. The titles are written by Thrussell, except “The Arcana Of Command”, co-written with Valli Maine, and the remixes were mastered by Alvin Lucia at The Analogue Research Facility.

Xavier Morel is an international techno DJ who has worked with Juno Reactor, Eat Static, DJ Hell and Thomas P. Heckmann. His versions move the source tracks from Black Lung’s dystopian electronics toward a steadier dancefloor pulse.

About Black Lung

Black Lung is one of the long-running projects of David Thrussell, an Australian musician also known for Snog and Soma. Under the Black Lung name, Thrussell has issued dark electronic and techno-leaning records since the 1990s across labels including Ant-Zen and Metropolis, threading political and dystopian themes through instrumental electronics.

Recent Black Lung activity centres on the LP “The Brutal Gardener”, released on Ant-Zen, which Side-Line covered alongside an interview with Black Lung on technology and governance. “Babel (Remixed by Xavier Morel)” returns the project to Psy-Harmonics, revisiting that album’s tracks through an outside remixer.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes time, money and hard work to produce, and we do it to push the artists we like, who are equally fighting to survive.
