Genre/Influences: Techno, acid-pop.
Background/Info: I never heard of Phunkadelica before, but the “Intergalactico”-EP is a perfect opportunity to discover this Sicilian project.
Content: The EP features 3 tracks plus one remix by Berliner producer Man Power. After the title song, which sounds like the offspring between techno and acid with some vintage synth line reminding Snowy Red, the next few cuts are mixing different genres together. From deep, blasting bass lines to some astral pop influences you also get another vintage-like approach on the remix of Man Power.
+ + + : The title song of the EP is an interesting cut for its diversity, retro-like feeling and a rather sensual touch on top. It’s an easy listening production, which is well crafted and carried by sensual, slow and danceable rhythms. I especially like the synth parts adding this good-old touch of magic on top of the work.
– – – : Phunkadelica is not exactly dealing with one explicit music genre, but rather sounds as crossover. So it’s hard to define the real belonging of this project, but at the other side it also makes the originality of the work.
Conclusion: “Intergalactico” sounds as an easy listening piece of music carried by some sexy danceable vibes on top.
Best songs: “Intergalactico”, “Collapso – Man Power Italo Belgique Remix”.
