Peter Murphy – Silver Shade (Digital/CD/Vinyl Album – Metropolis)
Peter Murphy will forever be associated with the legendary Bauhaus, but the British artist has also built an impressive solo career over the years. On his new opus, “Silver Shade”, he brings together an array of notable collaborators, including Trent Reznor, Boy George, Justin Chancellor, and Danny Carey. Once again, production duties were entrusted to ‘Youth’ (Killing Joke).
The album opens with the already familiar “Swoon,” featuring Trent Reznor (NIN). It’s a dynamic track that blends Pop and Rock with a touch of Industrial, and it sets the tone for the rest of the record. Naturally, Murphy remains true to his signature sound, and the spirit of Bauhaus still lingers—especially in the guitar work—while his magnetic, charismatic voice commands full attention.
The title track, “Silver Shade,” sounds powerful, even a bit mischievous, before the album transitions into a more Cinematic final act. The closing song features a surprising and captivating duet with Boy George.
“Silver Shade” is a brilliant album that defies easy categorization, making it both refreshing and innovative. Highly recommended! (Rating:8½).

About Peter Murphy
Peter Murphy is a UK-born vocalist and songwriter best known as the frontman of gothic rock originators Bauhaus, formed in 1978 in Northampton, England. The band’s 1979 debut single, “Bela Lugosi’s Dead”, is widely considered a seminal release in the development of gothic rock. Bauhaus released four studio albums – “In the Flat Field” (1980), “Mask” (1981), “The Sky’s Gone Out” (1982), and “Burning from the Inside” (1983) – before initially disbanding later that year.
Following the group’s breakup, Murphy launched a solo career that explored post-punk, gothic rock, and alternative pop. His discography includes “Should the World Fail to Fall Apart” (1986), “Love Hysteria” (1988), “Deep” (1989), “Holy Smoke” (1992), “Cascade” (1995), “Dust” (2002), “Unshattered” (2004), “Ninth” (2011), and “Lion” (2014).
“Silver Shade”, produced by Youth of Killing Joke and released via Metropolis Records, is Murphy’s tenth solo studio album and his first full-length in more than a decade, following his February 2025 single “Swoon” and a November 2024 duet with Boy George on “Let The Flowers Grow”.
