Haruomi Hosono returns with ‘Note of Mothership’

“Note of Mothership” opens “Yours Sincerely”, described by Hosono as his 23rd studio album and his first new record in seven years. Its official visualizer follows a character named Dr. Tanuki, a raccoon dog studying organisms under a microscope. Hosono explains the album title through a small change of address: “I turned to a more familiar word often used to close a letter: ‘Sincerely.'” The ten-track album carries “Note of Mothership”, “Sincerely”, “Aayurveda”, “M for Mandala”, “Rojiura (Walking Vibration)”, “Happy Holiday”, “To A Wild Rose”, “Humming ‘Dream Of Love'”, “Figlio Perduto” and “Anemo Wheel”, and is available to pre-order on vinyl and digital.

About Haruomi Hosono

Haruomi Hosono was born on 9 July 1947 in Tokyo. He co-founded Happy End, one of the first groups to write rock in Japanese, and in 1978 formed Yellow Magic Orchestra with Ryuichi Sakamoto and Yukihiro Takahashi, an act that built pop around synthesizers and sequencers and reached number one in Japan with 1979’s “Solid State Survivor”. His 1973 solo debut “HOSONO HOUSE” later gave Harry Styles the title of his 2022 album “Harry’s House”.

Across five decades Hosono has moved between folk, exotica, ambient and electronic music. “Yours Sincerely” is his first album for Ghostly International, and “Note of Mothership” is its opening single.

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
