Forty years after their groundbreaking debut, Clan Of Xymox returns with their 18th album, “Exodus”. The record opens with the familiar “Save Our Souls,” a beautifully haunting Dark-Wave track with poignant, sensitive lyrics reflecting on the horrors of war. The album maintains this captivating energy throughout, offering a collection of dark, melodic, and danceable tracks that perfectly balance lush guitar tones with intricate electronic arrangements. Ronny Moorings’s deep, emotive vocals bring a sense of passion and gravitas to the songs, elevating the listening experience. Alongside the more energetic tracks, “Exodus” also features slower, more melancholic pieces. While these may not resonate with all listeners, they contribute to the album’s emotional depth and sonic variety. Overall, “Exodus” is a masterful addition to the band’s illustrious discography, reaffirming Clan Of Xymox’s enduring ability to innovate and deliver top-tier Dark-Wave music. (Rating:8½).

About Clan Of Xymox
Clan of Xymox, originally known as Xymox, is a Dutch darkwave band formed in Nijmegen in 1981. The group was founded by Ronny Moorings, Anka Wolbert, and Pieter Nooten.
Initially inspired by punk and post-punk movements, Xymox quickly developed their unique sound blending elements of gothic rock, synthpop, and electronic music. They gained attention with their self-titled debut album in 1985, featuring the underground hit “A Day.”
In 1986, the band changed their name to Clan of Xymox to avoid potential legal issues and released their second album, “Medusa,” which further established their signature dark and atmospheric sound. Throughout the late 1980s and 1990s, Clan of Xymox released several albums, including “Twist of Shadows” (1989) and “Phoenix” (1991).
Despite lineup changes and periods of hiatus, Clan of Xymox continued to evolve their sound, incorporating elements of trance, industrial, and alternative rock into their music.
“Exodus”, released in 2024 on Trisol, was accompanied by the EP “Blood of Christ”, while Moorings looked back on the band’s career in a retrospective interview with Side-Line.
