Content: “Night Call” features 8 songs which are getting us back to the magic of 80s Electronics; quite minimal-driven strings and bleeps, melodic but cold, and sexy vocals on top.
+ + + : Although this artist doesn’t’ bring anything new, the production sounds refreshing. I like the retro-style which has been perfectly adapted into cool songs; especially the second part of the album features a great exposure. The vocals express less emotion which makes them pretty sexy.
– – – : I regret the album is only featuring 8 songs but you don’t hear me complain.
Conclusion: Caress is a great and promising exposure from retro Electronic-Minimalism.
Best songs: “Mortal Flaw”, “Unchained”, “Dream Girl”, “The Stranger”.

Caress is the solo darkwave electronic project of Los Angeles-based artist Tara Jane, inspired by vintage 4AD goth and contemporary dark pop acts such as TR/ST, Kontravoid and Boy Harsher. Jane also fronts the Los Angeles shoegaze act Blood Candy. Her Caress solo work first drew attention during the pandemic with a rework of Patti Smith’s “Dancing Barefoot”, followed by the single “Love” in 2019. “Night Call”, Caress’s debut album, was written and produced by Jane and released on Negative Gain Productions on 24 November 2023.
