Vipermilk – Sound Bites (Album – EK Product)

Background/Info: Vipermilk is a Finnish quartet, which this year unleashed its debut album.
Content: the sound of this band is mixing Electronics and guitar. You’ll easily recognize EBM influences, which are mainly carrying the bass lines while the guitar sounds –often used as leads, create a somewhat Psychedelic effect. The vocals have been performed in a rather enraged way.
+ + + : The unique aspect of this band makes its originality. I prefer the songs driven by harder and more explicit EBM bass lines and sequences, “Indignation” being a true cool song. “Crimson Lie” is another attention grabber, which is somewhere in between EBM and Dark-Electro. Vipermilk is definitely shaking traditional Electro standards, injecting something different to the genre… although I’m not sure this band belongs to any specific genre.
– – – : I’m not that fond of the somewhat Psychedelic-like leads the songs have been made with. It creates an Electro-Rock effect, which is hard to label and not always that accessible.
Conclusion: “Sound Bites” is a bit of a sonic challenge and maybe a way to enlarge to Electronic horizon.
Best songs: “Indignation”, “Crimson Lie”, “Every Zero”, “Nibiru Cataclysm”.

Vipermilk is a Finnish electronic band. Discogs lists J-V Hintikka, Ilari Heinäaho and Lasse Erjamo as members; the credits of “Sound Bites” add Konsta Vehkala as a fourth writer of the music, with all lyrics by Rory Winston. Vehkala also runs the dark electronic project LAHO and plays drums in the metal band Psychework.
“Sound Bites” was released on 16 April 2021 by the Italian label EK Product as a limited CD and as a download. The ten tracks are “Every Zero”, “Resist”, “Evil Heat”, “Gaslight”, “Nibiru Cataclysm”, “Indignation”, “New Drug City”, “Crimson Lie”, “One By One” and “Sound Bites”. The band wrote, recorded and mixed the album itself; Dirk Steyer mastered it at ACSY Sound and Vlad McNeally made the artwork. “Every Zero” and “Evil Heat” were issued as singles on Bandcamp ahead of the album.
Discogs lists “Sound Bites” as the band’s only release to date. This review remains the only Side-Line item dedicated to Vipermilk.
