Chrysalis Records will release Ultravox’s “The Collection (Deluxe Edition)” on December 5, 2025. The synth-pop/new wave set expands the band’s 1984 hits compilation with additional audio and video content. A new video for the Ultravox track “Love’s Great Adventure (Blank & Jones so80s Reconstruction)” has been created from previously unseen material from the original 1984 shoot.

The original “The Collection” gathered Ultravox’s 14 Chrysalis-era singles from 1980–1984. Upon release in 1984 it peaked at No. 2 in the UK and was certified triple-platinum by the BPI, with worldwide sales exceeding two million.

The new version come in 2 formats and can be pre-ordered:

4CD + 2 Blu-ray Deluxe Edition (limited to 5,000 units): The boxset adds “The Collection II” (1986–2024 singles, alternative and unreleased versions), 10 newly created 12″ extended versions mixed by Midge Ure, Steven Wilson, Blank & Jones and others, the complete B-sides collection, and two Blu-ray discs with over four hours of material: all promotional videos (including alternative/uncensored cuts) and BBC TV appearances (Top of the Pops, Old Grey Whistle Test, ORS, and more). The package is housed in a 12″×12″ slipcase with two 20-page booklets featuring previously unseen images and lyrics. Digital/streaming editions will also be available.

2LP black (half-speed cut) and 4LP clear vinyl box: A newly remastered 2LP black set (half-speed mastered at AIR Mastering) recreates “The Collection” as a double album for improved fidelity. A 4LP clear vinyl edition mirrors the CD configuration by adding “The Collection II.” Both use die-cut sleeves with interchangeable front images and include four-page inserts.

About Ultravox

Ultravox formed in London in 1973 (initially as Tiger Lily) with John Foxx (Dennis Leigh), Chris Cross (Chris Allen), Billy Currie, and later Warren Cann; early releases on Island Records included “Ultravox!” (1977, produced by Brian Eno/Steve Lillywhite), “Ha!-Ha!-Ha!” (1977) and “Systems of Romance” (1978).

In 1979 Midge Ure replaced Foxx and Ultravox signed to Chrysalis Records, beginning a run of UK hit singles and albums: “Vienna” (1980), “Rage in Eden” (1981), “Quartet” (1982, produced by George Martin), live set “Monument” (1983), and “Lament” (1984).

“The Collection” followed in November 1984 and became their highest-charting and best-selling album in the UK; “U-Vox” (1986) closed the original run. The classic Ultravox lineup reconvened for touring in the late 2000s and released “Brilliant” in 2012. Bassist Chris Cross died in 2024, aged 71.

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
