Santiago Nicolás opens solo alias with five-track industrial EP ‘Atrición’
Chilean producer Santiago Nicolás released “Atrición”, the five-track debut EP under his solo alias, on 18 August 2026, with a physical edition planned.
Chilean producer and composer Santiago Nicolás released “Atrición” on 18 August 2026, the first release under the solo alias he took from his own name, Santiago Nicolás González Lihn. The five-track EP is self-released, digital, and runs a little over 21 minutes. He composed, produced and mixed all of it.
The tracklist runs “Todo Archivo Tiene una Grieta” (5:08), “Lo Primero Es la Contracción” (4:27), “Ensayo Continuo de Precisión” featuring Kimin Kim of the Korean band PCR (3:43), “No Todo lo que Arde Tiene que Morir” (5:15) and “Un Canto para el Herido” (2:48). Downloads are offered in MP3, FLAC and 24-bit/96 kHz at a name-your-price minimum of nine dollars.
Two of those tracks appeared first as singles. “Ensayo Continuo de Precisión” went out on 28 May 2026 and “Lo Primero Es la Contracción” on 4 June 2026, both mastered by the producer at Estudios 6AM in Santiago.
Where the Santiago Nicolás lyrics on ‘Atrición’ come from
The words did not start as lyrics. They come from a series of poems written in the waiting room of an oncology centre, and the record sets that material against political violence, borders, archives and inherited trauma. The EP mixes hard, exact drum programming with the forward motion of contemporary techno, and the mix keeps every impact audible rather than smoothing it into texture.
A physical edition is planned through the label Anything That Makes Light, collecting the poems alongside unreleased visual material, photographs and notes. It has not yet gone on sale, and no date has been given.
About Santiago Nicolás
Santiago Nicolás is the solo alias of Santiago Nicolás González Lihn, a producer, composer and artist based in Santiago, Chile. He has spent over a decade across electronic music, noise, experimental composition and post-punk, and opened the alias in May 2026.
He records and has recorded under several other names. As Access Device he released a run of albums on Bandcamp between 2021 and 2023, among them “Detrás del Paisaje”, “Nueve Variables”, “Ceremonias” and “Ori. Gen” in 2021, “Luminiscencia” in 2022 and “Eón Codex” in 2023, working from Mexico City for part of that period. With filmmaker Pedro Roca he forms the Chilean duo Ángel de la Guarda, whose “Sentencia” appeared in June 2022, followed by “Crimen” the same year and “Alfanumérico” in 2023.
His most recent band credit is The Deadly Affair, whose album “Visions Through The Sense of Silence” came out on 16 May 2025 through Anything That Makes Light. González Lihn wrote and composed every song on it and co-produced with Atom™, who also mixed and mastered the record; Diego Lorca played drums and Louise Schmidt Aguayo played bass and sang backing vocals.
The Santiago Nicolás alias began releasing in May 2026 with the two singles that now sit inside “Atrición”. The EP is his first full release under the name.
