Two years after their masterful opus “Barricades”, Swedish band Principe Valiente returns with their fifth full-length album. Fernando Honorato and Jimmy Ottosson stay true to the core elements of their signature Dream-Pop sound, but “In this Light” has a notably more Ethereal and flowing quality. Most of the tracks are subtle, building steadily towards powerful climaxes. A few songs have a harder, darker edge, which personally stand out to me. While this album is filled with many beautiful moments, “Barricades” still holds the crown as their magnum opus in my opinion. (Rate:8).

About Principe Valiente

Principe Valiente is a Swedish band from Stockholm formed around singer Fernando Honorato and guitarist Jimmy Ottosson, playing a sound that mixes post-punk minimalism, shoegaze textures, and dark pop. The band released its self-titled debut album in 2011 on afmusic, followed by “Choirs Of Blessed Youth” in 2014 and “Oceans” in 2017.

With “Barricades” in 2022 the band moved to Metropolis Records, which also released “In This Light” in 2024 as a digital, CD, and vinyl album. Shortly after the album, the band announced the companion EP “In This Lights (Remixes)“. “In This Light” is the band’s fifth full-length album and the release reviewed here.

Why we ask

Advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations we have not put up a paywall, and we refuse to add annoying advertising, so we need to ask for your help. Side-Line’s independent journalism takes time, money and hard work to produce, and we do it to push the artists we like, who are equally fighting to survive.
