Perry Bamonte of The Cure dies at 65 after short illness

Perry Bamonte, guitarist and keyboardist for the English rock band The Cure, has died at the age of 65. The band announced his passing on 26 December 2025, stating he died at home over Christmas after a brief illness.
The Cure described Bamonte in their official statement as “quiet, intense, intuitive, constant and hugely creative” and “a warm-hearted and vital part of The Cure story.”
Perry Bamonte is the brother of Daryl Bamonte who worked for The Cure for decades as tour manager.
About Perry Bamonte
Perry Archangelo Bamonte was born 3 September 1960 in London, England. He first became involved with The Cure in 1984. Initially he served as a guitar technician and road crew member, assisting band members and working closely with leader Robert Smith.
Perry Bamonte became a full member of The Cure in 1990, after keyboardist Roger O’Donnell’s departure. He played guitar, six-string bass and keyboards, becoming a key part of the band’s sound through the 1990s and early 2000s.
Over this 14-year span, The Cure performed more than 400 shows with Bamonte in the lineup. In 2005, he left the band when Robert Smith reconfigured The Cure as a trio.
After leaving in 2005, Bamonte pursued a quieter life and creative interests outside The Cure’s mainstream spotlight. He spent time on fly fishing, illustration work (including contributions to Fly Culture magazine), and joined the British rock supergroup Love Amongst Ruin led by former Placebo drummer Steve Hewitt.
In 2022, he rejoined The Cure for their Shows of a Lost World tour. Between 2022 and 2025, he performed about 90 shows with the band. Perry Bamonte’s final performance with the band took place on 1 November 2024 in London, a concert tied to their new material Songs of a Lost World and featured in the concert film The Cure: The Show of a Lost World.
