Nuda is a female solo project from Seattle, USA. With a string of EPs and a previous album, I discovered this project through the “Stranger” album -and I have to admit, Nuda completely blew me away. The powerful and impressive Electro beats grab you by the throat, with low tones that resonate deeply, almost physically. This instrumental Electro production exudes a Cinematic quality while remaining rooted in Electronic and Industrial foundations. While the album features some exceptional tracks, there are a few moments that feel less inspired. However, overall, this is a project brimming with potential. Incorporating vocals or spoken samples could elevate the next album even further. (Rating:8).

About Nuda

Nuda is the solo project of Seattle-based musician Kaylie Cortez, a darkwave/industrial artist who creates instrumental soundscapes with “a feminine touch to industrial music.” Before launching the project, Cortez was active as a guitarist in the electronic band Possessed Tranquility. Around 2019 she shifted focus to her solo work, releasing the debut album “Intimate Senses” on 12 February 2019 as a self-released CD and digital title, written and mixed by her with mastering by Pierre Ferguson.

Her second album “Mindful Tragedies” followed in 2020, featuring collaborations with DK-Zero, Possessed Tranquility and Jaymie Valentine of CinderGarden. The third album “Stranger” was released on 1 November 2024: a ten-track album written by Cortez, mixed and mastered by Derek Brown, with guitars on “Trigger” by Thomas Crawford. Alongside her studio releases, she has performed live as a keyboard player with industrial bands DK-Zero and FleischKrieg, and has supported artists including IAMX, Al1CE and Matte Blvck. “Stranger” is the album reviewed here; a remix compilation built around the track “Trigger” was announced for release in 2025, covered in the Side-Line news item Nuda to release “Trigger – Remix Compilation”.

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
