Marrasmaa is a Finnish duo that has released a handful of rare productions over the years, with long breaks in between.

Their latest work features six extended tracks that evoke a distinctly cinematic atmosphere. These are instrumental pieces that build progressively, punctuated by occasional percussion. A didgeridoo also makes an appearance. The overall sound is delicate and, at times, recalls the mood of Sopor Aeternus.

While this album may be somewhat challenging to fully grasp, it remains quite accessible to listeners seeking something different. (Rating:7).

Why we ask

Advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations we have not put up a paywall, and we refuse to add annoying advertising, so we need to ask for your help. Side-Line’s independent journalism takes time, money and hard work to produce, and we do it to push the artists we like, who are equally fighting to survive.
