Genre/Influences: Synthpop/Minimal Wave
Background/Info: Composer/producer Zidonian X knows the New-Wave/EBM scene well enough, as a DJ, to create the right kind of music.
Giek is also active in other projects and is well-experienced in singing and performing.
Content: The debut release of this Dutch duo from Amsterdam directly overwhelmed me a bit because of its perfect combination of minimal music and dreamy chants.
The songs are all danceable and take you away because of the dreamy voice of Giek, which reminded me a bit on Kim Wilde sometimes.
What I like most on Lucifer’s Dream, besides the music, is the creative DIY attitude of both band-members.
+ + +: A nice self-produced, easy to buy, dark and catchy 4-track EP. The track “Remember” has for sure the potential to become a club-hit!
– – -: “The way” is not as strong as the 3 other songs but still worth listening to.
Conclusion: Definitely a release you should check out if you are into synthpop and minimal wave. Hopefully a full album will soon be released.
Best songs: “Remember”, “3 in the night”, “Elixir Of Isis”.
Since you’re here …
… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.
Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.
If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
