The Portuguese duo Iamtheshadow returns with their sixth studio album, marking their third release on the Cold Transmission Music label. Staying true to their Dark-Wave sound, the band continues to refine the atmospheric style they’ve developed over the years. Most tracks are imbued with a dreamy, floating quality, though there are moments where more pronounced Electro sequences take center stage. In these passages, the sound occasionally evokes comparisons to Whispering Sons, though Iamtheshadow maintains a softer and more ethereal overall approach. While the album may not feature any towering, world-conquering hits, it offers a consistent flow of simply beautiful songs; each one a testament to the duo’s artistry and their ability to craft evocative soundscapes. (Rating:7½).

About Iamtheshadow

Iamtheshadow began in 2015 as a project of Portuguese musician Pedro Code, who earlier worked with The Dream Collision and Rainy Days Factory. The Lisbon-based band draws on the dark sounds of the 1980s and has built an extensive discography that includes the albums “Pitchblack”, “Everything in this Nothingness”, “The Wide Starlight”, and “Pain Come Close”.

The album reviewed here is the band’s sixth studio album and its third release on Cold Transmission Music.

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
