Freakangel – Serenity To The Stars, Beauty To The Broken (Digital Album – Alfa Matrix)
Freakangel is back, and the world is about to take notice! While ‘back’ might not be the most accurate term, this release serves as a powerful ‘best-of’ compilation, revisiting tracks from their first three albums. During that era, this Estonian group delivered pure, relentless Dark-Electro, defined by pounding rhythms and raw, distorted vocals. Each track is a visceral experience, brimming with unfiltered energy and enhanced by razor-sharp guitar riffs. These songs stand the test of time, retaining their brutal intensity and dark allure. However, the album’s closing four tracks -remixes from a contest, fall short in comparison, feeling like the weakest link in an otherwise impeccable collection. Then again, outdoing Freakangel’s original material is no easy task. This compilation is a fierce reminder of the band’s unyielding power and influence -definitely a must-have for fans old and new. (Rating:8½).

Freakangel emerged in Tallinn around 2009-2010 under Dmitry Darling. The band debuted on Alfa Matrix with the album “The Faults Of Humanity”, followed by “Let It All End” and “The Ones To Fall”, alongside the EPs “Porcelain Doll”, “The Book Of Violence” and “Into The Fire”, plus the live releases “The Faults Of Humanity: Live” and “The Show Of Violence”.
Note that the 2017 album “How The Ghost Became” and the EP “In The Witch House” were released through DWA.
In 2021 Alfa Matrix released “The Faults Of Humanity (X Anniversary Edition)”, followed by the 2022 EP “The Last White Dance”, the 2023 single “Suicidal (Break The Cycle)” and its extended follow-up, then the 2024 single “Death Bloom” and the “Death Bloom (Extended Version)” EP. “Serenity To The Stars, Beauty To The Broken” collects tracks from the band’s first three albums, rounded out by remixes from a fan contest.
