About Flesh Field
Flesh Field is an American electronic/industrial project formed in Columbus, Ohio, in 1996 by Ian Ross. The project name refers to a non-medical term Ross coined for psychological defence mechanisms in rape victims. Rian Miller joined in 1997 as vocalist. The early line-up released “Viral Extinction” in 1999, followed by “Redemption EP” in 2000 and “Belief Control” in 2001 through Inception Records and Trisol/Matrix Cube.
In 2004, Wendy Yanko replaced Miller as vocalist. Flesh Field released “Strain” that year through Metropolis Records and Dependent Records.
Ross announced the retirement of Flesh Field in 2011. That same year, the project issued “Tyranny Of The Majority” as a free internet release. Flesh Field tracks kept appearing in media and games, including “Beneath Contempt” in “True Blood” and “Uprising” in the 2023 film “The Mill.”
Flesh Field returned in 2023 with “Voice of the Echo Chamber” on Metropolis Records. In 2024 the project released the EP “Voice of Reason”. The current core studio line-up is Ian Ross, who handles vocals, keyboards, programming, instruments, and production.

Since you’re here …
… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.
Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.
If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
