COP International has welcomed the influential industrial rock band, The Cassandra Complex, to its line-up of artists.

Originally formed in Leeds, England, The Cassandra Complex came together through the collaboration of Rodney Orpheus, Paul Dillon, and later journalist Andy Booth. Their debut single “March” was released in 1985. Rodney Orpheus later moved to Hamburg, Germany, where he teamed up with guitarist Volker Zacharias, a longstanding member of the band.

Over the decades, The Cassandra Complex’s music has evolved to encompass a rich blend of EBM, industrial, goth rock, new wave, and synth-pop elements. They have gained recognition for their unique blend of electronic music, post-punk vibes, guitar-driven compositions, and the distinctive vocals of Rodney Orpheus. Songs such as “Moscow Idaho”, “One Millionth Happy Customer”, and “The War Against Sleep” are considered iconic tracks of their genre.

Beyond his work with The Cassandra Complex, Rodney Orpheus is also noted for his significant contributions to music technology. He played a key role in developing and advocating for many of the tools that musicians globally use today, with a particular focus on Virtual Studio Technology (VST), which has been a game-changer for the music industry. His collaborative work in this field extends to a variety of artists, including Kevin Godley (10cc, Godley & Creme), Sinead O’Connor, Sisters of Mercy, Die Krupps, and Future Sound of London.

Recently, The Cassandra Complex has been independently releasing their music. Currently, they are in the process of producing a new album and revisiting and re-recording selections from their extensive back catalogue. As they approach their 40th anniversary in 2024, fans can look forward to a special, limited edition reissue of their work to commemorate this significant milestone.

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
