Aux Animaux – Body Horror (Album – Manic Depression Records)

Genre/Influences: Cold-Wave, EBM, Minimal-Electro.
Format: Digital, CD, Vinyl.
Background/Info: Aux Animaux is a Swedish, female, solo-project. “Body Horror” was released in December 2023. The mastering of the album was done by Doruk Öztürkcan (She Passed Away).
Content: Aux Animaux deals with a rather eclectic Electronic sound. The bass lines are pretty EBM-driven while the global production comes closer to Cold-Wave. A dark atmosphere hangs over the songs while the female, ghost-like vocals make it only freakier.
+ + + : Aux Animaux enlarge the sonic horizon of Manic Depression Records. I like this production for its very own approach; it’s an exciting work driven by menacing, EBM, bass lines and minimal sound treatments. A few guitar sounds on top of the work accentuate the darkness. This album might appeal for lovers of Kas Product.
– – – : Among the 9 songs from the tracklist you’ll discover a few, softer, evasive cuts (cf. “Devastation Song”, “Lost Souls”) which according to me aren’t the best ones. The album is also missing a true ‘hit’ to speak about a real successful debut-album.
Conclusion: A surprising work with an interesting potential; this is a promising debut full length.
Best songs: “Black Out”, “Sleep Paralysis”, “Violence In The Silence”.
Rate: 7½.

About Aux Animaux
Aux Animaux was founded in 2015 by musician Gözde Düzer, originally from Istanbul and based in Stockholm. She plays bass guitar and theremin and describes her music as hauntwave. The project name, French for “for the animals”, reflects the animal rights movement and veganism. Aux Animaux released the EP “Black Holes” in January 2018, followed by “Stockholm Synthrome” in April 2020, the album “The Hydesville Episode” in March 2022, the single “Devil Inside” in September 2022, the album “Hauntology” in December 2022, and the single “Lost Souls” in April 2023. Düzer has toured across Sweden and Europe, opening for acts including She Past Away, Hante and Then Comes Silence. “Body Horror”, released on Manic Depression Records in December 2023, is her debut full-length album, mastered by Doruk Öztürkcan of She Past Away.

Why we ask
Advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations we have not put up a paywall, and we refuse to add annoying advertising, so we need to ask for your help. Side-Line’s independent journalism takes time, money and hard work to produce, and we do it to push the artists we like, who are equally fighting to survive.

I have been working for over 30 years with Side-line as the main reviewer. My taste is eclectic, uncoventional and I prefer to look for the pearls, even if the bands are completely unknown, thus staying loyal to the Side-Line philosophy of nurturing new talents.
