Genre/Influences: IDM, electro-ambient, experimental.

Background/Info: Russian composer Denis Vasiliev has already been active since 2008. He released an impressive number of productions during the past three years and now joined hands together with Aliens Production to unleash his debut release on the Slovakian label.

Content: “Impulsiveness” takes off an IDM way revealing intelligent sound treatments –featuring great bass lines, mixed with an atmospheric layer on top. The cadence remains slow, sometimes a bit into glitch. Both last songs are remixes; you’ll discover a remix of the title track plus a remix from a song that will appear on the next album.

+ + + : MediaData is the right band to release material on Aliens Production. You immediately notice the fine IDM approach; which became a characteristic of the label, but still a global intelligence in the entire sound production. There’s a right balance between subtle sequences, alluring bass lines, slow rhythms and noticeable electro-ambient elements. “Poseidon 0.9 d” is a little sonic jewel illustrating the composing skills of the artist. I also have to say a word about both remixes, which are harder and more danceable.

– – – : There’s only one track (cf. “Destructive”) that couldn’t convince me.

Conclusion: “Impulsiveness” doesn’t sound at all as the title might indicate; it’s a well-crafted and controlled piece of music.

Best songs: “Poseidon 0.9d”, “Luo And Little Argentina – Remix”, “Impulsiveness”, “Impulsiveness – Testing Of Sound Remix”.

Why we ask

Advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations we have not put up a paywall, and we refuse to add annoying advertising, so we need to ask for your help. Side-Line’s independent journalism takes time, money and hard work to produce, and we do it to push the artists we like, who are equally fighting to survive.
