Human Steel – Invaders (CD Album – Human Steel)

Background/Info: Set up in 2007 by the Polish duo Wojciech Gierowski (aka ‘Lindey Lindstorm’) and Marcin Wanat “Invaders” is the band’s third full length album.
Content: No doubt about it, Human Steel remains inspired by the old-school EBM, which has something raw and unpolished. The global approach sometimes reminds me of Ionic Vision. The songs are pretty simple, but efficient! Carried by dry bass lines and a linear, danceable cadence this work features 9 songs plus 4 bonus cuts taken from their previous full lengths.
+ + + : If you’re into retro-EBM this album is definitely for you. The sound formula delivers no surprise, but some of the songs are definitely efficient. I like the haunting atmospheres supporting some of the songs, but also the simplicity versus efficiency of the song writing. The last ‘new’ song from the album (cf. “Cement Plastik Und Stahl”) is an interesting one for mixing pure EBM with a tune reminding me of Kraftwerk. I also like the somewhat spooky production of the vocals. Notice by the way the CD format is a cool digipak format.
– – – : The live songs don’t really add a bonus to the work. I would have preferred to get a few self-made remixes instead of live recordings with a poor sound quality.
Conclusion: Human Steel has something predictable although it’s a cool retro-EBM record.
Best songs: “Sniper N°.6”, “Radar”, “Cement Plastik Und Stahl”, “Drones”.
