The Rope, a Minneapolis-based band active since 2009, returns with a new release featuring eight tracks that immediately evoke the spirit of The Sisters of Mercy. Their signature dark and melancholic atmosphere is beautifully crafted, driven by a quintessential ’80s guitar style that perfectly captures the era’s mood. While the tracks are often on the shorter side -occasionally leaving you wanting more, this doesn’t detract too much from the overall experience. The vocalist delivers with passion and conviction, though there are moments where his voice could use a bit more volume to fully match the intensity of the music. Despite these minor critiques, The Rope delivers a strong and recognizable sound, demonstrating their firm grasp of the genre. Their latest work is a solid addition to the Post-Punk and Dark-Wave tradition. (Rating:8)

About The Rope
The Rope formed in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA, in 2009. The lineup consists of Jesse Hagon (vocals), Mike Browning (guitar), Sam Richardson (bass) and Ben Rickel (drums), and the band mixes post-punk, darkwave and gothic rock elements. Their early releases appeared on Late Century Records: “The Rope EP” in 2011, the “Waters Rising” EP in 2015 and the album “Lillian” in 2019.
“Nightbird”, released on October 4, 2024 through Swiss Dark Nights, is the band’s latest album and includes the track “Nightmare”.
