Genre/Influences: Goth-rock, shoegaze, dream-pop.

Format: Digital, CD.

Background/Info: This self-released and self-titled work also is the debut production from the Italian trio Solitude In Apathy.

Content: This EP features 4 tracks, which are starting with a rather classical mixture of goth- and dark-rock music. It’s a classical composition featuring drums, guitar and bass guitar. The female vocalist injects some passion to the work. Both last cuts are a little bit different for exploring shoegaze paths and dream-pop. The songs are now getting darker while the vocals have something shimmering.

+ + + : There’s an interesting progression in the tracklist especially when Solitude In Apathy are getting more into shoegaze and dream-pop. It creates an intimate sphere and because of the dreamy sensation I can imagine these songs being featured as soundtrack. “Ocean” is a cool apotheosis for this debut work.

– – – : Both debut songs (cf. “Dreaming In Silence” and “Nothing Lasts Forever”) can’t totally convince. I think this band has more potential digging into shoegaze and dream-pop.

Conclusion: This is an honest and eclectic debut from a band revealing some potential.

Best songs: “Ocean”, “The Other”.

Rate: (7).

I have been working for over 30 years with Side-line as the main reviewer. My taste is eclectic, uncoventional and I prefer to look for the pearls, even if the bands are completely unknown, thus staying loyal to the Side-Line philosophy of nurturing new talents.

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
