“Inside” is the latest video drawn from “Protection Spells”, a set of songs Leventhal has described as informed by trauma, magic, darkness and hope. The clip follows scenes of transformation, with creatures hatching, plants unfurling and growth across the frame.
Leventhal explained the song directly. “This song is about looking for feelings of safety and comfort in a world that is out of our control,” she stated. “It’s about finding places where you can just exist and be yourself. It’s about nurturing community, lifting up queer spaces and reaching for utopia.”

‘Protection Spells’ album and Ships In The Night live date
“Protection Spells” was released in 2025 on Metropolis Records in CD and digital formats, and remains available through the band’s Bandcamp. Side-Line reviewed the album on release in Ships In The Night – Protection Spells. The set also produced the Blood Harmony video, shared in October 2025.
The next Ships In The Night live show takes place on 27 June 2026 at Pianos on the Lower East Side in New York, as part of NYC Pride.
About Ships In The Night
Ships In The Night is the solo project of US artist Alethea Leventhal, who writes, produces and performs the music. The project builds electronic dream pop and darkwave around her electronic production and vocals, with songs that move between intimate and cinematic registers and explore themes of memory, longing and transformation.
Leventhal released the single “First Light” in 2021 and the video for “The Fire” in 2024, followed by the single “Some Of Those Dreams” in late 2024. Side-Line reported on Ships In The Night land ‘Protection Spells’ album in May in March 2025, ahead of the album’s arrival on Metropolis Records. “Protection Spells” was her first release for the label after two earlier independent albums.
The “Inside” video extends that 2025 album cycle, pairing a new visual with the project’s June 2026 live date in New York.
