Italian artist Nero Kane—real name Marco Mezzadri—has previously released three albums and returns this year with a new nine-track opus, created in collaboration with Samantha Stella and Matt Bordin.
His music is a true experience: a subdued, intimate composition built primarily around guitar, complemented by subtle background textures. The guitar plays in a steady, almost ritualistic monotone, shaping a singular atmosphere that is reinforced by Nero Kane’s deep, equally restrained voice. The result is minimalist and at times Experimental, occasionally brushing against Ballad-like structures while also embracing Ritualistic and even Psychedelic elements. Samantha Stella’s ethereal vocals lend an angelic contrast to the prevailing darkness.

This work unfolds like a shadowy, dreamlike vision. The compositions guide the listener on a mysterious inner journey, where guitar and strings often reveal unexpected nuances. The music’s monotony is intentional—a hypnotic, subdued force that carries a haunting magic. It completely convinced me. (Rating:8).

About Nero Kane

Nero Kane is the dark folk project of Italian musician Marco Mezzadri. He writes in an intimate, minimal style that draws on blues and classic songwriting, and his songs return often to death, religion, and love.

Mezzadri released his debut album, “Love In A Dying World”, in 2018, followed by “Tales of Faith and Lunacy” in 2020 and “Of Knowledge and Revelation” in 2022. “For the Love, the Death and the Poetry”, his fourth album, arrived on September 26, 2025 through Subsound Records, and was made with Samantha Stella, whose vocals feature on the record, and Matt Bordin. It is the album reviewed here.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
