Meta Meat – Voices (EP – Ant-Zen)

Genre/Influences:
Format: Digital, Vinyl.
Background/Info: Hugues Villette and Phil Von are companions knowing each other from their involvement with Von Magnet. But they’re now getting back to Meta Meat unleashing four new tracks.
Content: The work reveals 4 short, but heavy cuts driven by a sonic fusion between Industrial and Tribal. I also noticed a few Ritual chants, samplings and manipulated vocal effects.
+ + + : I was always into Tribal/Industrial music and there are not enough artists dealing with this kind of music. Meta Meat perfectly knows how to create a hard-terrorizing sound mixing different influences together. I especially recommend listening to “Acute” for its harder rhythm but also for featuring efficient Ritual chants on top.
– – – : By the exception of the last song the tracks are definitely too short.
Conclusion: Meta Meat will catch the attention of Industrial-Tribal fans and they are going to like it!
Best songs: “Acute”, “Worth”.

About Meta Meat
Meta Meat is a duo formed by Hugues Villette and Phil Von after the end of Von Magnet, the project Phil Von led for more than thirty years and in which Villette played drums during its final seven or eight years. The duo build a tribal, percussion-driven sound around repetition, body and ritual, released through the German label Ant-Zen. Ant-Zen issued the “Voices” EP in 2024, and the live album “Alive”, recorded at Turbinenhalle, followed in 2026.

Why we ask
Advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations we have not put up a paywall, and we refuse to add annoying advertising, so we need to ask for your help. Side-Line’s independent journalism takes time, money and hard work to produce, and we do it to push the artists we like, who are equally fighting to survive.

I have been working for over 30 years with Side-line as the main reviewer. My taste is eclectic, uncoventional and I prefer to look for the pearls, even if the bands are completely unknown, thus staying loyal to the Side-Line philosophy of nurturing new talents.
