The Vancouver dungeon-grunge trio Joey Chaos and The Ghosts have just released their brand new “Graces” EP (available here on Bandcamp). Joey Chaos and The Ghosts were featured on our post-punk compilation “Post-Punk (Genesis)” with the track “Immolate”.
“Graces” is the third and final installment in their release cycle, following “Elegy” (2019) and “Immolation” (2021). The band says this about their new release: “This EP delves deeper into our sound than ever before, serving as the concluding piece of a triptych that explores the realms of industrial, grunge, and darkwave.”
It was written, recorded, and produced by Joey Chaos in the band’s East Vancouver studio, with mastering by engineer Greg Reely.
The three tracks on the EP follow the trajectory of three fervent falls from grace so the band explains: “‘Crustin’’ traces the fall of social graces under duress amidst the habituation of serial breakdowns. ‘Swing Low’ is a searing anti-nuke jam witnessing the downfall of humanity against dictatorial whims. Graces climaxes with ‘Bad Beat’, a demonic tale of a hypocritical, ecclesiastical temptation teetering on the edge of lust and the divine. All three songs veer into the periphery of grunge, industrial and darkwave and are heavily inspired by the multitude of genres in Vancouver’s thriving underground music scene.”
Joey Chaos and The Ghosts consists of Joey Chaos on vocals, Megan Krenbrink on drums, and Andrew Walker on guitar. Musically they blend post-punk, industrial, and 90s alternative music into one mix.
