This new album by the Hungarian project Human Vault, driven by its ‘conductor’ György Turoczy, aka Mortum, delves into the project’s archives. These songs have existed for a time but were never released—until now. Human Vault is a fairly prolific project, and one that consistently manages to fascinate me; this record is no exception. The songs transport us back in time—even as far as 1997. The influences remain largely unchanged: a blend of intelligent EBM and Electro-Industrial that evokes the genius of Mortal Constraint and Skinny Puppy. The compositions are meticulously crafted, down to the smallest detail.

Forget cheap EBM and stereotypical Dark-Electro—Human Vault delivers creative impulses that are masterfully transformed into danceable Electro tracks. Turoczy enlisted a few guest vocalists, whose ghostly contributions add an eerie dimension to the already dark soundscapes. At times, the album ventures into Experimental territory, and you’ll also find a few instrumental tracks.

Human Vault may not yet be a widely recognized name in the broader Dark-Electro and EBM scene, which is a shame—because this is a project of truly high quality, as this release once again confirms. The album features 15 tracks, with an additional 3 bonus tracks available in the digital version. (Rating:8).

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
