Background/Info: Fir Cone Children is one of the numerous projects Alexander Donat (Vlimmer, Assassun ao) is involved with. Since 2015 he released one Fir Cone Children-album a year. The new one is inspired by his daughters’ ‘enchanting world’.
Content: This is totally different to Dark-Wave of Vlimmer, Fir Cone Children being more diversified and open-minded. The album brings a mix between different styles; between Punk , Shoegaze, Dream-Pop and Rock. It’s a dynamic piece of music but is also revealing a kind of ‘happy’ feeling.
+ + + : This project confirms the diversity of Alexander Donat who clearly appears to be a true chameleon when it comes to music. Most of his projects are related to each other but Fir Cone Children is probably the most atypical one. It sounds eclectic while this album is driven by dynamic drum sections and guitar play sometimes reminding me of The Housemartins.
– – – : I has a happy feeling listening to this album which is however hard to define and definitely not the most significant project of the artist.
Conclusion: The artist calls this album ‘Dream-Punk’ which is maybe hard to figure and yet perfectly defines the content.

Fir Cone Children is one of several projects run by German musician and label owner Alexander Donat, alongside Vlimmer and Assassun. Since 2015 Donat has released one Fir Cone Children album per year, moving between punk, shoegaze, dream-pop and rock in contrast to Vlimmer’s dark-wave sound. “The Urge To Overtake Time”, released 14 July 2023 on Blackjack Illuminist Records, was inspired by his daughters and is described by the artist as “Dream-Punk”.
