Genre/Influences: Dark-Electro, Industrial.

Format: Digital, CD.

Background/Info: Belgian solo-project Dreadfool is driven by Benoît Buyse. We this year welcome the new self-released album of this artist.

Content: “The Final frontier” stands for a mix of Dark-Electro and Industrial music with some extra elements like Dark-Techno on top. The sound is unpolished and raw. The album features 10 songs plus 2 remixes by Deleritas and Ethan Fawkes.

+ + + : I first of all have to say a word about the great artwork of this album. The oval, metallic box looks really cool and is totally appropriated to this kind of music. This is a great, artistic, DIY exposure. Sound-wise the music fits to the metal box; the harsh, unpolished, brutal, sound treatments sound like an antidote to high-tech production. Dreadfool in a way brings the retro-sensation of 90s demos alive. I recommend listening to “High Precision Weapons” and “Hurt” which are my personal favorites.

– – – : I however would be curious discovering this album with a high-tech production which I’m sure would reach a wider audience. The main point that hurts is the lack of diversity in the composition.

Conclusion: Dreadfool is an interesting project for lovers of retro Dark-Electro music.

Best songs: “High Precision Weapons”, “Hurt” , Firelight”.

Rate: 7.

Inferno Sound Diaries
I have been working for over 30 years with Side-line as the main reviewer. My taste is eclectic, uncoventional and I prefer to look for the pearls, even if the bands are completely unknown, thus staying loyal to the Side-Line philosophy of nurturing new talents.

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
