Desiderii Marginis – Bathe In Black Light (Album-Digital/CD/Vinyl – Cyclic Law)

Swedish Dark-Ambient master Johan Levin originally self-released this ‘new’ album in 2021. Cyclic Law has now immortalized this masterpiece on CD and vinyl. It is an extremely dark experience where field recordings and deep, vibrating sound waves are mixed. There is also some percussion audible which all adds up to a scared, paranoid and apocalyptic experience. A new sonic gem in the Cinematic & Dark-Ambient genre. (Rate:8½).

About Desiderii Marginis
Desiderii Marginis, a Swedish dark ambient music project, was created by Johan Levin in 1993 in Mjölby, Sweden. Initially a solo project, it released its first three tapes – “Consecrare”, “Via Peregrinus”, and “Triptych” – in very limited editions, which were later included in the 2009 compilation album “Years Lend a Golden Charm”. The project’s debut album, “Songs Over Ruins”, was released on Cold Meat Industry in 1997. Over the years, Desiderii Marginis has produced several albums, including “Deadbeat” (2001), “Strife” (2004), “The Ever Green Tree” (2005), and more recent works such as “Vita Arkivet” (2018), “Departed” (2020), and “Serenity / Rage” (2023).
“Bathe In Black Light” was first self-released by Levin in 2021 before Cyclic Law reissued it on CD and double vinyl, the edition reviewed here.

I have been working for over 30 years with Side-line as the main reviewer. My taste is eclectic, uncoventional and I prefer to look for the pearls, even if the bands are completely unknown, thus staying loyal to the Side-Line philosophy of nurturing new talents.
Since you’re here …
… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.
Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.
If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
