About Christian Death
Christian Death formed in Los Angeles County, California, in 1979. Rozz Williams founded the band, with early members including guitarist John “Jay” Albert, bassist James McGearty and drummer George Belanger. Musically the band mixes gothic rock, deathrock and art punk. Williams, McGearty and Belanger later regrouped with guitarist Rikk Agnew, formerly of the Adolescents. That line-up appeared with “Dogs” on the 1981 L.A. compilation “Hell Comes to Your House” and released “Only Theatre of Pain” through Frontier Records in 1982.
The band’s early line-up changed after “Only Theatre of Pain”. Williams was later joined by members of Pompeii 99, including Valor Kand and David “Glass” Parkinson. Gitane DeMone also joined the group in this period. This line-up recorded “Catastrophe Ballet”, released in 1984, followed by “Ashes” in 1985. Williams left after “Ashes”, and Kand became the band’s frontman.
With Valor Kand as frontman the band recorded “The Wind Kissed Pictures”, followed by “Atrocities” in 1986 and “The Scriptures” in 1987. The band then released “Sex and Drugs and Jesus Christ” in 1988, the two-part “All the Love All the Hate” in 1989 and “Insanus, Ultio, Proditio, Misericordiaque” in 1990. Maitri joined Christian Death in 1991 and first performed with the band in Florence, Italy, on July 12, 1991. Later releases included “Sexy Death God”, “Prophecies”, “Pornographic Messiah”, “Born Again Anti Christian” and “American Inquisition”.
Christian Death released “The Root of All Evilution” in 2015. “Evil Becomes Rule” followed in 2022 and remains the latest studio album.

Since you’re here …
… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.
Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.
If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
