German band Centhron has been active for over 20 years and released its twelfth full-length album this year. Core member Elmar Schmidt is joined by bassist Stefan Thies, and Natalya Hegewald has been added on synthesizers.

Centhron’s style remains instantly recognizable —a signature blend of Dark-Electro with harsh vocal effects on Schmidt’s voice. However, some tracks feature less distortion, offering a refreshing contrast and sounding particularly strong. The band’s secret lies in their unique combination of hard, danceable beats, dark atmospheres, and powerful bass lines, balanced with uplifting choruses and solid Dance/Trance/Techno-inspired leads. Some choruses even flirt with a Dark-Pop sensibility, but it all fits seamlessly together, reinforcing Centhron’s position as a tastemaker —aspecially in the German scene.

The opening tracks are especially powerful and at times deviate slightly from what we’ve come to expect from Centhron —without betraying their core sound. Longtime fans will not be disappointed. (Rating:8).

Why we ask

Advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations we have not put up a paywall, and we refuse to add annoying advertising, so we need to ask for your help. Side-Line’s independent journalism takes time, money and hard work to produce, and we do it to push the artists we like, who are equally fighting to survive.
