Genre/Influences: Italo-Disco, Electro-Pop.

Format: Digital.

Background/Info: Swedish artist Carl Eric last year released several singles and the excellent debut-album “The Garden”. The EP “Liquid Courage” was released by the end of the year featuring five songs.

Content: The opening song “Games” was already released as a single and is a new, great, Italo-Disco exposure. The other songs left are mixing Italo-Disco and Electro-Pop; happy Electro featuring male- and female vocals.

+ + + : “Games” is a pure earworm featuring a danceable kick, a cool, vintage, melodic tune, 80s Disco effects and male-/female vocals with easy reminding vocals on top you’ll all start to sing during the chorus. Carl Eric stands for an impressive, top notch, qualitative, production. The songs are masterly crafted and carried by alluring melody lines while there’s a cool match between male- and female vocals. I like the vintage sound treatments the songs have been made by.

– – – : The songs are now and then a bit too short so the single remedy is to press the repeat button.

Conclusion: Carl Eric remains to me one of the most promising and talented contemporary Italo-Disco artists.

Best songs: “Games”, “Head Over Heels”, “Sail Away”.

Rate: 8.

I have been working for over 30 years with Side-line as the main reviewer. My taste is eclectic, uncoventional and I prefer to look for the pearls, even if the bands are completely unknown, thus staying loyal to the Side-Line philosophy of nurturing new talents.

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
