The fifth album by Robert C. Kozletsky, under his moniker Apocryphos, guides us into uncharted, shadowy realms. Across six tracks, dark soundscapes are meticulously constructed, building gradually with waves of ominous tones that take on an increasingly hostile edge. The infusion of Industrial elements intensifies the album’s chilling atmosphere, adding an icy layer to Apocryphos’s signature Cinematic style. This work gains a new visual depth, particularly in “An Internal Wilderness”, where Geiger-like effects pull the listener into a gripping sense of dread. The final track, with its unexpected guitar sounds, departs from the album’s overall tone and feels like the sole misstep in an otherwise powerful release. (Rating: 8).

About Apocryphos

Apocryphos is the dark ambient project of American musician Robert C. Kozletsky, based in Indiana, Pennsylvania. Kozletsky started the project in late 2011, initially under the spelling Apócrýphos, following his earlier project Psychomanteum.

The debut album “The Prisoners Cinema” appeared in 2015 on Cyclic Law. Kozletsky then moved to the Cryo Chamber label, where he released “Stone Speak” in 2016, “Against Civilization” in 2020 and “Phantoms Received” in 2022. With Kammarheit and Atrium Carceri he recorded the collaborative albums “Onyx” (2015) and “Echo” (2017), both on Cryo Chamber.

“Atrementia”, issued in 2024 on digital and CD formats through Cryo Chamber, is Kozletsky’s fifth solo album under the Apocryphos name and the release reviewed here.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.
