Andreas Davids – Zukunftsromane (Digital EP – Audiophob)

Andreas Davids has been a prominent figure in the Electro/Industrial underground scene for years, boasting an impressive and extensive discography. While Xotox remains his primary project, Davids has also released music under his own name and collaborated with various artists on numerous productions. Now, he returns with a 5-track solo EP that explores the realm of sci-fi storytelling. The EP presents a distinctly Experimental and Abstract soundscape, weaving an intricate audio canvas. An astral atmosphere permeates the work, occasionally punctuated by slow, deliberate rhythms. Entirely instrumental, the release invites listeners into a dark, immersive sonic world, rich in texture and mood. Arguably one of the most challenging and unconventional works by the German artist, it once again underscores his remarkable versatility and creative vision. (Rating:7).

About Andreas Davids
Andreas Davids is a German electronic musician who has been active for almost 30 years in many different styles of electronic music. He founded Xotox in 1998 as a solo project exploring the boundaries of rhythmic noise and industrial techno; the early Xotox material was self-released before the project signed to Pronoize in 2002 and later moved to Infacted Recordings. Beyond Xotox, Davids works with Tony Young (Autoclav1.1) as Natura Est and has collaborated with Sven Phalanx and Anatoly Grinberg.
The solo EP “Zukunftsromane” was released on August 23, 2024 via the audiophob label as a free download. Davids created the tracks in 2023 and 2024 at Separate Room, MTH, with mastering by Mirko Hentrich and artwork by M. Davids. The instrumental EP tells musical sci-fi stories and is the release reviewed here.

Why we ask
Advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations we have not put up a paywall, and we refuse to add annoying advertising, so we need to ask for your help. Side-Line’s independent journalism takes time, money and hard work to produce, and we do it to push the artists we like, who are equally fighting to survive.

I have been working for over 30 years with Side-line as the main reviewer. My taste is eclectic, uncoventional and I prefer to look for the pearls, even if the bands are completely unknown, thus staying loyal to the Side-Line philosophy of nurturing new talents.
