Within the intimate realm of industrial and Experimental music, Russian mixer, mastering engineer, and composer Anatoly Grinberg, better known as Tokee, is a familiar name. He has collaborated with numerous artists and has also released a substantial body of solo work.

With this new release, Tokee presents two extended compositions inspired by the fascination with—and transformation of—snow. On the first track, he succeeds in translating this concept into sound in a sophisticated and captivating manner, making extensive use of field recordings and a veritable arsenal of sonic textures and effects. He introduces delicate music-box-like motifs that contrast sharply with harsher, tearing sounds, yet everything ultimately fits together seamlessly. The second track, however, loses some of its impact by stretching into an overly long and monotonous soundscape. While initially engaging, the endless waves of sound unfortunately offer too little variation to sustain interest throughout.

In short, one track stands out as strong and compelling, while the other remains largely unexciting. (Rating:6).

About Anatoly Grinberg

Anatoly Grinberg is a Moscow-based Russian composer, mixer, and mastering engineer who records solo as Tokee. He trained in sound engineering and mastering at the Israeli School of Sound in Tel Aviv and co-founded the Dope Records label. Since 2011 he has mastered several hundred albums and worked on post-production for film and television, alongside a steady output of his own dark ambient, cinematic, and industrial material.

Through the Ant-Zen label he has worked closely with Mark Spybey of Dead Voices On Air, releasing the collaborative albums “123 M” and “Crop-Dusting”. “Snowing”, issued as a digital EP on Ant-Zen in 2025, adds two long-form pieces built from field recordings and processed textures to that catalogue.
