X Marks The Pedwalk – Insomnia (Digital/CD Album – Meshwork)
“Insomnia” is album number 13 by the legendary German project X Marks The Pedwalk. Inspired by Sevren Ni-Arb and his wife, singer Estefania, the album reflects on inner conflict, love, loss, and related themes.
The record is presented in a 10-track format that showcases the band’s signature Electro-Pop aesthetic. The songs are exceptionally well crafted, featuring a wealth of vintage sounds and subtle arrangements. Most tracks are driven by a strong kick, making them danceable, while an astral dimension consistently lingers beneath the surface. This atmosphere is also reflected in the vocal production, which feels slightly more experimental than usual. Personally, I tend to prefer the songs featuring Sevren Ni-Arb’s vocals, as they carry a heavier edge. Several tracks are performed as duets, and there are real gems to be found there as well.
It’s difficult to say whether “Insomnia” is the best album of the band’s Electro-Pop era, but in my opinion, it is undoubtedly one of the stronger releases—particularly in terms of sonic richness and production. (Rating:8½).

X Marks The Pedwalk is the project of German musician André Schmechta, who records under the alias Sevren Ni-Arb and founded the act in 1987. Schmechta was active across the 1990s electronic underground and worked as a producer within the EBM scene. Over the years the project moved from dark, uncompromising EBM toward a more idiosyncratic Electro-Pop.
Recent full-lengths include “New/End” in 2022 and “Superstition” in 2023, the latter issued on Meshwork Music. “Insomnia“, the project’s thirteenth album, followed on November 27, 2025 across digital and CD formats. Schmechta’s wife, the singer Estefania, features on several of its tracks.
The album continues the Electro-Pop direction of the project’s recent work and is available on Bandcamp and in CD format via Meshwork Music.
