Religion Of Heartbreak – Dream Reflection (Digital EP – Religion Of Heartbreak)

Formed by former members of the band Monta, the American project Religion Of Heartbreak is still relatively new on the scene.
Their latest EP features five tracks that blend Cold-Wave and Minimal-Electro into a catchy, atmospheric sound. The opening track immediately hooks the listener with a strong, carrying chorus. Vocals alternate between a male and a female singer, adding a dynamic layer to the listening experience. Personally, I find the songs fronted by the female vocalist to be the clear standouts.
While I wouldn’t go so far as to call this a must-hear release, there’s definitely something intriguing about this band. Let’s hope they continue to evolve and build on their distinctive sound. (Rating:6½).

About Religion Of Heartbreak
Religion Of Heartbreak is an American trio of Dedric Moore, Mikal Shapiro, and Krysztof Nemeth, formed from the post-punk project Monta at Odds. Where Monta at Odds pursued a psychedelic mix of Synth-Pop and Post-Punk, Religion Of Heartbreak moves toward Dark-Wave, EBM, and the darker side of Synth-Pop.
The band debuted with the single “Dark Hour of Meditation” on August 9, 2024, followed by the single “Dream Reflection” in December 2024 and the “Dream Reflection” EP on February 3, 2025. Religion Of Heartbreak later released the single “100 Degrees” ahead of the “Lunate” EP in 2025.

I have been working for over 30 years with Side-line as the main reviewer. My taste is eclectic, uncoventional and I prefer to look for the pearls, even if the bands are completely unknown, thus staying loyal to the Side-Line philosophy of nurturing new talents.
Since you’re here …
… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.
Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.
If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
