Fulvio Guidarelli has been active in the music scene for more than four decades, and through his Lisfrank project, he is rightly regarded as one of the pioneers of the Italian Electronic underground. On this latest album, he presents ten tracks inspired, at least in part, by Orwellian themes.

The music is highly eclectic, yet the songs remain united by a clear affection for the sounds of the 1980s. Whether delivering powerful, EBM-infused tracks driven by solid, razor-sharp basslines or more restrained, atmospheric compositions, Lisfrank never loses sight of his early influences. It is therefore no surprise that analog equipment played a central role in shaping the album’s warm, authentic sound. On several tracks, the deep vocal delivery even recalls Peter Murphy.

At times, the stylistic diversity makes the album feel somewhat uneven. Even so, it is the harder, more EBM-oriented moments that stand out as the strongest and most compelling parts of the record. (Rating:7).

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
