Je T’Aime – Useless Boy (Digital Album/CD/Vinyl – Manic Depression Records / Icy Cold Records)

“Useless Boy” is the fourth studio album by the Parisian group Je T’Aime. These French musicians are undoubtedly among the most exciting newcomers in the Dark-Wave/Post-Punk scene in recent years.
With this new release, they pick up where they left off with “Passive” and “Aggressive”, refining their signature sound —a melodic take on Dark-Wave that strikes a perfect balance between guitars and synths. The guitars create a hypnotic and atmospheric quality that has become their trademark, while the synths add an uplifting dimension. On top of that, the vocals, with their distinctive timbre, frequently evoke comparisons to Robert Smith. The Cure remains a clear influence, but fans of Clan Of Xymox will also find plenty to appreciate.
Je T’Aime has always had a captivating presence, and with these ten new songs, they further affirm their immense potential. (Rating:9).

About Je T’Aime
Je T’Aime is a Parisian cold-wave trio formed in 2018. It comprises members dBoy, Tall Bastard, and Crazy Z, and they bring a blend of electro-clash, new-wave, and post-punk. They are signed to Icy Cold Records and Manic Depression Records.
In the spring of 2018, the trio released their debut single, “The Sound”, followed by their self-titled debut album in 2019. During the pandemic, the band worked on a double album titled “Passive/Aggressive”: “Passive” arrived on February 14, 2022, followed by “Aggressive” on November 1, 2022. “Useless Boy”, their fourth studio album, followed through the same two labels.

I have been working for over 30 years with Side-line as the main reviewer. My taste is eclectic, uncoventional and I prefer to look for the pearls, even if the bands are completely unknown, thus staying loyal to the Side-Line philosophy of nurturing new talents.
Since you’re here …
… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.
Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.
If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
