Synthpop project Fictional will release its new six-track digital single “Nightfall” on July 11, 2025 via Repo Records, preceded by a video premiere on YouTube on July 10 at 9 p.m. (CET). That’s tonight in like 25 minutes. “Nightfall” follows two earlier digital singles this year, “Your Whisper” and “Embrace the Silence”.

Fictional is the side project of Gerrit Thomas (Eisfabrik, Funker Vogt), originally launched in 1999. In 2025, the project continues with seven guest vocalists and a series of singles ahead of the October release of the third full-length album “Some Great Constructions”.

The new single “Nightfall,” like the earlier 2025 release “Your Whisper”, was co-written and performed by Christian Schottstädt (Forced to Mode, Forced Movement). The single contains six different versions of the track, including remixes by T.O.Y. and Raik Fuhrmann, alongside a cinematic acoustic version featuring violinist Maline Zickow (EKLIPSE, Giant Crow, Canea Quartett).

Tracklist:

  1. Nightfall (Single Edit)
  2. Nightfall (T.O.Y. Remix)
  3. Nightfall (Rifted)
  4. Nightfall (Raik Fuhrmann Remix)
  5. Nightfall (Club Mix)
  6. Nightfall (Schottstaedt’s Acoustic)

About Fictional

Fictional was founded in 1999 in Germany by Gerrit Thomas as a synthpop side project distinct from his work with Funker Vogt. The debut album “Fictitious” appeared in 1999, followed by “Fictitious [+]” in 2001 and “Fiction” in 2003 on Repo Records.

After a long hiatus, Fictional resumed activity in 2025 with the digital singles “Your Whisper” and “Embrace the Silence”.

The 2025 lineup features Gerrit Thomas as producer and a rotating group of guest vocalists. The current series of singles precedes the release of the third album, “Some Great Constructions”, set for October 13, 2025.

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
