UK dark folk/darkwave duo Chimehours will release the debut LP “Underneath The Earth” via Cold Spring Records on October 24, 2025. The album is available to pre-order now. The opening single (“Underneath The Earth”) is out today. But at Side-Line we can exclusively offer you a preview of the entire album!

The project pairs vocalist/composer Beck Goldsmith with multi-instrumentalist Jon Dix. The duo describes the record as a work of hauntological folk and ethereal minimalism that engages with themes of nature, folklore, time, and the uncanny.

Beck Goldsmith explains: “We’d had the idea for this project bubbling away for a long time, and we’re so glad it finally came into being. With the album, we wanted to connect with something deeper and older and just outside of our understanding. It’s hard to articulate in words, and made more sense to us in music.”

And he continues by saying: “It’s folklore and community and the call of the past, all wrapped up in the urgent need to connect with nature and the ephemeral things that bind us. And this dark undercurrent of something ever-present and all-knowing. It’s the disruption of time and the yearning for something long forgotten. And the joy of finding those moments of light in the times that feel dark. We’re excited to take it out live and see how the songs shift in real time!”

The 13-track album is offered on CD (digipak), standard black 180g LP (limited to 250), and “earth green” 180g LP (limited to 250), as well as digital download. You can find the links to order the different formats below.

About Chimehours

Chimehours is a UK-based collaboration between Beck Goldsmith and Jon Dix. Both artists had previously worked together on indie-folk-leaning material before forming Chimehours to explore hauntological and dark folk sonics.

The pair developed “Underneath The Earth” over several years, articulating a narrative of ecological connection and unease.

Chimehours cite folk-horror, ghost stories, retro cinema, and British landscape lore as touchstones. The duo wrote and produced the album between Derbyshire, London, and Margate during and after lockdown, combining drones, drums, and guitars with woodwinds, strings, and layered vocals. Mastering is credited to Martin Bowes at The Cage Studios.

As of October 2025, “Underneath The Earth” is their first long-form release with Cold Spring Records, following the project’s initial single release and video premiere in early September.

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising.
