Chimehours is a new project founded by Beck Goldsmith and Jon Dix, who already knew each other from previous collaborations. Their debut album is inspired by Max Porter’s novel “Lanny”.

The 13 tracks quickly reveal the duo’s Cinematic sensibilities, yet the music extends far beyond that genre. Goldsmith’s vocal timbre is fragile and enchanting, adding an Ethereal dimension to the album. Musically, a wide range of instruments is employed, and the songs shift between soaring passages and more bombastic moments driven by powerful drums. I noticed delicate, subtle arrangements enriched by the magic of classical instrumentation, but also hints of freestyle experimentalism.

The album unfolds like an imaginary soundtrack composed largely of short pieces. I wasn’t bored for a single moment—this is a work with plenty to offer, one that will certainly resonate with a discerning audience. (Rating:7).

About Chimehours

Chimehours is a UK duo of vocalist and composer Beck Goldsmith and multi-instrumentalist Jon Dix, who had worked together on indie-folk material before forming the project. The pair mixes dark folk, hauntological folk, and ethereal minimalism, drawing on folklore, ghost stories, and British landscape lore. They wrote and produced “Underneath The Earth” between Derbyshire, London, and Margate, combining drones, drums, and guitars with woodwinds, strings, and layered vocals, with mastering by Martin Bowes at The Cage Studios. Issued through Cold Spring Records on October 24, 2025, the 13-track album is the duo’s first long-form release.
