Brooklyn-founded, Los Angeles-based synth act Black Marble has released the single “Anything”, with a video directed by Scott Kiernan. The track is the latest preview of the album “Life in Small Spaces,” due August 21, 2026 on Sacred Bones Records. Black Marble is the solo project of Chris Stewart.

“Anything” is built on dry drums, chiming guitar and keyboards, a leaner arrangement than earlier Black Marble releases. Stewart describes the track’s theme in terms of modern relationships and constant options:

“Anything is basically a bedroom pop version of Satisfaction but it trades the carnal undertones for more of a domestic pastiche,” says Stewart. “…the center of the struggle is less about finding temporary satisfaction, but that today’s glut of options and opportunities gives every relationship an expiration date, every encounter an easy off ramp and every minor annoyance a reason to move on. The sentiment is the same from those old days, lack of fulfillment, but it’s due to modern circumstances. It feels like we have every option at our fingertips but we’re somehow losing the ability to connect.”

Kiernan’s video was shot at Various/Artists in New York City and shows Stewart at the center of a fast-moving accumulation of images.

About Black Marble

Chris Stewart founded Black Marble in Brooklyn in 2011, initially alongside Ty Kube of Team Robespierre. The project’s debut full-length, “A Different Arrangement,” arrived October 9, 2012, on Hardly Art, the Sub Pop imprint that signed Stewart after he had posted a single song online. “It’s Immaterial,” Black Marble’s second album, followed in October 2016 on Ghostly International and marked Kube’s departure from the project.

Stewart signed to Sacred Bones Records and relocated from Brooklyn to Los Angeles around the release of Black Marble’s third album, “Bigger Than Life,” on October 25, 2019. “I Must Be Living Twice,” a covers EP featuring reworked songs originally by Wire, Robert Palmer and Grouper, followed in August 2020. Black Marble’s fourth full-length, “Fast Idol,” arrived October 22, 2021, also on Sacred Bones.

“Anything,” released July 17, 2026, previews Black Marble’s fifth album for Sacred Bones, “Life in Small Spaces,” due August 21, 2026. Stewart supports the release with a North American tour running from late August through September 2026.
