With Monotone Murk, we discover a relatively new project that released its official debut album at the end of 2024 on the little-known Spanish label Ominous Sounds. There is limited information available about this project, which seemingly began in 2020 and is driven by esoteric themes.

The music reflects this perfectly through an eerie and somewhat unconventional Dark-Ambient style. The subdued compositions may feel monotonous at times, yet they also evoke an unsettling, almost paranoid atmosphere. It’s as if you’re being watched from across the street, and when whispers emerge, the music’s visual and Cinematic quality becomes even more pronounced.

While it doesn’t always sound entirely convincing, Monotone Murk remains an intriguing project and an album worth discovering. (Rating:7).

About Monotone Murk

Monotone Murk is a project that began around 2020, built around themes of esotericism, desolation and bleak atmospheres, with influences drawn from black metal, dark and ritual ambient, film and game scores, and post-industrial music. Little further biographical information about the artist has been published.

The project’s debut album, “Withering Of Reality’s Presence”, was released November 12, 2024 on Ominous Sounds, a Spanish label describing itself as a meeting space for artists working in dark ambient and ritual sound. The eight-track album traces a journey from the decaying materialism of the modern world into a spectral realm.
